Date Night
We've gone back to doing date nights. We haven't had the budget or the means to do it. We were really good there for a while and then we slacked off. We've been doing just small things but this week we decided to do something fun and even splurge a little. Ok a lot. We went to dinner at our favorite Italian place Vitos. Then we went to see Get Smart! If you haven't seen it - RUN don't walk to your nearest theater.I won't spoil it for you, just tell you what we thought of it! I was surprised at how funny it was. I think I have a new favorite movie and two new favorite stars. It was nice to see Anne Hathaway in a different role and she definitely pulled it off! Steve Carell is laugh out loud hysterical. Not to mention they have fantastic chemistry! I rather liked them together! Carl and I both commented it was nice to have a 'fun entertaining movie' with just good comedy and action! I could definitely see this one again! Oh and I don't think I've ever watched a full episode of the original Get Smart! This one almost makes up for Indiana Jones!

Fun & Useless Information
Last night we went to Di's house. We went to dinner with her at Applebee's. She just bought a new house and was so excited to show us! She's so funny! She told me all about the bunnies that come out and play in her yard. She moved just down the street and around the corner from her old house. She's out in Awahatukee! ( I know I butchered that spelling!) it's about 35 mins from us. Basically on the edge of town. But she LOVES it. She's got a really cute place. She's having a blast decorating it. We were going to go back to her house for dessert but Carl had to come and make his ribs for work. They were having a rib 'throwdown' (with no voting ha ha ha!) between him and one of the other gals at work. It was 9pm when we got home. Carl usually bakes his ribs for about two hours, coats them then marinates them. The sauce is the secret. But it's the bomb! I don't know how else to say it! LOL! We went swimming while we waited for them. It was like swimming in bath water! The water is 90*!! It's been hovering right around 110-113*outside y. We did the same thing tonight. Before too long we'll have to run the pump while were swimming so the fountains will cool it off!

On another note- I did see something that fascinated me! I am easily fascinated! LOL! We were driving either to di's or home from Herb and Janets (can't remember which I just know it was this weekend!) and we saw a cow field. The cows were laying down. One by one! It was the strangest thing I ever saw! DON'T LAUGH DAVE! They must be tired from all this heat?! Who knew! I have never seen them lie down. How do they get up!?

Here's some other fascinating things I learned in an email that was sent to me by my step dad!

Get Rid Of Ants
(steph this ones for you, maybe you can try it with other creepy crawly things!)
Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants They eat it, take it "home," can't
digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, especially if it rains, but it works
and you don't have the worry about pets or small children being harmed!
Measuring Cups

Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill with hot water.
Dump out the hot water, but don't dry cup. Next, add your ingredient, such
as peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes right out.
Banana's
Peel a banana from the bottom and you won't have to
pick the little "stringy things" off of it. That's how the primates do it.

Where's the Beef?! Add a teaspoon of water when frying ground beef.
It will help pull the grease away from the meat while cooking.. I didn't know you could peel your banana backwards! I don't like banana's so I'll leave that one for the rest of you to try!

My Bus Adventures
I can always tell when Summer is officially here. 1. Schools out - so there are kids EVERYWHERE. Which is ok for the most part except that half of them come in to our work and raise all kinds of ruckus in the am. 2. The Valley Metro (the local bus) stops function at a normal capacity if it all. 3. The heat gets to the brains of most here and it starts to make them just plain stupid or delusional!

Let me tell you about my afternoon! The bus was on time (for the first time since last Thurs!) today so I though oh my afternoon going home is off to a good start. However we get half way down Power Rd. and almost back to University and the A.C. is having issues. There is a Rec center that the bus stops at to make it's turn around. The bus died there. Fortunately the bus driver was able to start it up again. However it gets out to the intersection of Power and Adobe (just before University) and it stalls. She starts it up again but still has trouble. There probably about 10 passengers besides me on the bus. Most feeling bad for the driver. However the girl and a couple of guys behind me were discussing how easy it is to use a stolen credit card! (what the heck!) so the girl tells the guy how he can use the card as credit and most gas stations, fast food and restaurants don't ask for a pin number and or ID so it's very easy to use a stolen credit card. She said she'd used several that way!!! I have my headphones on but I can still hear 90% of the conversations. She wasn't quiet about sharing the info. Anyway the bus attempts to turn right on University and it dies in the right hand turn lane, blocking traffic. I am thinking we're either going to get hit by traffic coming through the light or someone trying to turn right on University. She calls for assistance but she cant get out her flairs or let us off the bus because there are cars still turning right squeezing between the bus and the sidwalk to get through!! Then comes the best part. One lane was sort of open if cars went around the front of the bus. But the left turning lane was full of cars so there wasn't a lot of room. A green truck comes through and tries to go through without slowing down. The front of the bus has a bike rack with two bikes. You hear this horrible scrapping noise. One of the bikes is totaled and under the bus! The truck acts like it's going to stop but doesn't he SPEEDS UP!!! And KEEPS GOING! What the crap is wrong with people!! We were all stunned. The guy behind me was the owner of the bike that was totalled. By this time the bus driver had to go out and stop traffic and put up her flair so we could get off the bus. It was now a saftey issue for us to stay on the bus being in the bus with no air (it was 102*) and if the bus got hit we'd be in trouble. So far we had no injuries just the bikes. When we got off the bike rack was laying in the middle of the intersection with the other bike under the bus. I am sure to other drivers it looked like she it a biker. I can't imagine! I was shaking! I couldn't believe some guy just hits a bus and keeps going!! The driver was on the phone with her company giving them the information. I wanna know where in the hell were the cops! Why didn't some call and report the scene!! I am still not sure if anything there is something I can do about the situation. I take this bus every day. To and from work!I already have issues driving. Now saftey becomes a concern just taking the bus! YIKES!! I am sure I will calm down soon. I hope but for right now my nerves are a little rattled!

I'm no Martha Stewart
I wanted to post this last week but with the party I didn't have time to sit down last week! I never knew a fabric store could be so much fun! I have been looking for curtains for the kitchen and the laundry room since we moved in. There isn't much out there. So I decided that I would make some. How hard can it be? Well, really the hardest part was picking out the fabric! I couldn't decide! But these are the patterns I went with. I had the laundry room painted blue. I posted pictures of the color earlier but hopefully this is a better picture. The blue stripe is what I put in the laundry room, the red gingham is going in the kitchen.
The tan stripe is going in the family room. (I think) I haven't decided on the tan stripe yet.

One of the presents Carl got for his birthday was a gift card from Lowes (do they know us or what! LOL!) So we found this cool patio set. It was on clearance. Normally it was $120.00 but it was clearanced for $49.99! It came with the 6 chairs and the umbrella. We've desperately needed a patio set. You can also see my hair cut in this picture! LOL! Although I'm dead tired in this picture so it's not a good picture of me. But see I have bangs! I've NEVER had bangs!

Happy June
first off to Carl. Then to Britton, Liz and Shelby.Your cards are in the mail! I apologize for them being late! We had a VERY VERY successful party. We had close to 40 people. It was so fun! The kids were the ones in the pool. We got in later with my cousin Cassi and the other cousins after most people had left. We were so impressed with those who showed up. We know so many of you came from all over and made it fabulous! We had plenty of EXCELLENT food. I did my pulled pork over night and it was great! Carls ribs were awsome! It was so nice to see everyone! Can you believe I didn't take ANY pictures!! Oh my gosh I'm shocked at myself! ha ha! I also couldn't believe the clean up! LOL! We were so exhausted last night and today but it was SOOO worth it! We will do it again in a heart beat, in fact we're thinking of doing it for the 4th of July!
Carl had an amazing birthday bash! I am so thankful and we feel VERY blessed that we have such good friends and family. He was very spoiled this year! I hope we can be the type of people our friends are!

I did get my hair chopped - it's soooo nice for the summer! It's not too short. It goes to my ears and it is so much lighter! I have a full head of red hair. It's gets HOT! It should be a quiet week this week. There will be some changes this week for Carls work. I've mentioned it before. Keep your fingers crossed!!
