Family Matters
So on Thursday I find out some wierd news. My estranged dad (LONG complicated story) has an alcoholic brother who died of a heart attack on Wed. We were close as kids. It was very strange in that I was emotional for a little bit, when Carl first told me. He found out through my brother Chris and his wife Michelle. They still have a relationship with my 'dad' and their family. It was very odd. And sad. I think the last time I saw my dads brother was after Carl and I were married. We still kept in touch with his kids after the divorce. But not after the relationship with my dad went wayside.
I have early memories of his brother that died. When he was sober. I knew him different. It made me a little sad to know that his life had gone in such a bad way. His kids don't have much of a relationship with him over the drinking years. It's sad how much that plays a factor in ones life and relationships and how much it destroys them.

On a happy note - Chris and Michelle and Michelles dad and baby Annabelle are coming to stay with us on Saturday!! YEAH!! I am sooo excited. I haven't had my family stay with us since we've moved down here!

Another funny note, we had dinner with the one s Johansons. Our name is Johansson. No that's not a spelling error. Ben and Inger. I've talked about them before. They live down here - Inger is Carls dad's sister. Inger was Inger Johansson. She married Ben Johanson. The only thing that changed is she dropped an S! They are both Swedish!! They are a ton of fun.We get together every other Sunday for dinner. Julie moved up to Salt Lake for a little bit. She used to live down here with her brother Zane and Holly. She is here for the weekend also. She has a job interview on Monday down here. She wants to move back! I guess it got to cold for her up there!! We are really excited she's moving back. We love all three of them but Julie and Carl have about the same sense of humor. They are the closest cousins in age.

Family things are kinda funny and strange when you try to explain them to someone else. But everyone has "stuff" good bad. And that's ok!

The best thing that has nothing to do with Family is : Green Bay plays Monday night football! ! I need Favre to score at least 31 pts in Fantasy Football tomorrow, so I can stay tied with someone in my Fantasy league!!GO PACKERS!

a few pictures...
My family, unlike me, is very much into Halloween. Every year my sister Liz throws this HUGE Halloween party. My mom used to do it when were kids. I guess it never stuck with me. I don't like getting dressed up and all that. Anyway - her annual party was night before last. (they all still live in SLC) , she sent me the pictures last night. I do have to say they had some pretty.
awsome costumes. This is the Schotts - my brother Shea and his family Angela, little Britton and Matia! We thought it was so cute, she was Yoda even with her Dora Explorer Shoes! They were too great not to share! I hope they don't mind!

This one is Chris and Michelle and little Annabelle ! SO CUTE!

Liz & Dave or should I say witch and headless horseman

Shortening Things?!

My friend Sue mentioned on her blog something about the baseball season being shorter, now, sue my friend, I think Carl would die of boredem if that happened! And lack of serious withdrawls. He's already having withdrawls now that the Yankees and the Diamondbacks are out! Bummer!
Now, we could switch and put football longer and baseball shorter! I like that idea!!

so here's my Short list of things that need to be longer...
1. Football season. Maybe just by a couple of weeks
2. fall days in Arizona - it's the best time of the year down here. We only get to go about 2
or 3 months out of the year with no air-conditioner.
3. t.v. episodes. It seems like they never run the good shows long enough. And others like ER that need to drop off the face of the earth! Take Ghost Hunters - they only have 12 new episodes this year! But they are becoming one of the hotest shows on cable t.v.

I know my list is short - I don't ask much. What do you think needs to be shorter/longer?!

Scrapbooking in the hole?!
The scrapbooking industry is taking a dive. Many companies including Recollections is going out of business. It has spread through our store like wildfire. I don't want to go into to much detail about the store I work at, but that there is cause for concern. Although it may help in some aspect that some business may generate from that. We are hopeful for a busy holiday season. We have a lot really cute projects and ideas that we are working on for the store. It seems the layout trend is dying. Most people are wanting projects and things for their home. Which is understandable. I have taken the same route myself. It's easier to make small books for people and gifts that people can use.

Scrapbooking takes different trends every year. The magazine industry has changed. That seems to be affecting the lack of actual "scrapbooking".
I know for many of you who read this are wondering what on earth I'm talking about. There is a sense of change and as of now, I'm not sure if it's good or bad. It's too soon to tell, I hope it's good, cause we need a house!! Otherwise I am hoping some other options become available.

Lessons
1. Pure Dumb Luck is still possible in the NFL!
The Packers won that game against the Redskins 17-14 by pure dumb luck! Or A lucky Defense?! We have defense, but what on earth happened to our offense?! Favre had one fumble and one interception. Nobody caught ANYTHING! It was quite sad really! But I'll still take the win. That now puts GB at 5-1! Oh and I guess to be the TD King you also need to become the interception King as well! LOL! You can break both those records in one year! HA HA!

3. Always always have a back up quarterback! Poor Arizona Cardinals can't seem to keep one. First Matt Leinhart is out for the season and now Kurt Warner temperoraly.

4.Buying/Finding a Car is MUCH easier than finding /buying a house! You can look at a million different houses before you find the ONE! Cars you usually already have in mind what you want.

5.The change of seasons is destined to bring on a headcold. I hope I can catch it early.
But I'll take the 80* weather anyday!!

*will add more later!*

a few updates
lately it's been hard to even be on the computer. Carls parents have been here for two weeks. They leave on Sunday. Actually they'll be at Christys for the weekend. Then they leave Sunday.

Therapy is going much better this time around. It's not pain it's just weak. It's just getting the muscles working again. It's kinda funny the one exersise I am doing is pulling my self with my feet on a Dr. chair. Ya know those round chairs the dr's sit on. I have to sit on that and pull my self forward with my feet. It's TOUGH. Who knew!Riding a bike is the only other one that is a struggle. I can get the forward motion but coming up is harder. It's funny these seem like silly little motions and everyday things, but when you're starting with a new /repaired muscles it's a whole different thing. But the pain is gone - I would much rather have the stiffness and the weakness than the pain anyday.

The house hunting - is going okay. We've only really looked at one and it was tiny. We need something big enough for us, but also room for people to come stay and an office. We have a short amount of time. Our lease is up in December and we really don't want to resign here.

So nothing too exciting. Just lots going on during the weeks to keep us busy!
Fall is finally here - I'm in the mood to decorate but unfortunatly I must wait until we get house, I don't have the room here to put things. Even though this place is bigger than we've had before and we've enjoyed - we need to upgrade again! How does that happen?!

The First Loss
is always the most painful!

The Packers took their first lost tonight against the Bears 27-20. They are still 4-1, as Carl keeps reminding me! I am pleased so far. There were a lot of things that went wrong tonight. I don't think the Bears made their OWN third down conversions without the help of the little yellow penalty flags. It didn't help that Favre had two turnovers himself. The first quarter was Packers football. Just like I remember. Then came the 2nd half. It was painful!

The Hunt Begins
We prequalified for a house this week!!!! We've needed good news for such a long time! We have two months to find a house. Our lease is up Dec 30 and we REALLY don't want to resign. But the amazing part is we qualified!! So now the hunt begins.

We actually looked at one today - but it was a little too small. We need at least 2brd 2baths (for company, an office etc...)

At work today - it was World Card Making Day. So we made cards for the Armed Forces. We took all our scraps from the store and let customers come in and make as many cards as they wanted and sign them with a little thank you. I worked most of it this morning and then one of the other girls came in to take over for me so I could go look at this house with our realtor.

It is cooling off. We are down to the mid 80's. This is the best part about living in Arizona. It was funny - when Carl took me to work today we both looked at each other and said it was CHILLY out!! It was 65*!

oh and in other news - we're very pleased with new announcement of Elder Eyring (Now Pres. Eyring )is the newest member of the First Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter - Day Saints. Apparently it was not visable on the broadcast but Pres. Hinkley "knighted Pres. Eyring with his cane! There is a picture of it posted on Desert News. Here is the link!
http://www.deseretnews.com/home. We could hear the audience laugh before the choir stood up but we couldn't tell if Pres Hinkley said something or did something.
Pres. Hinkley is a dear sweet FUNNY man and our Prophet. I hope he sticks around for a bit longer. There were some big happy changes that took place today. Fortunately I was able to catch some of it before heading to work. I look forward to hearing the rest tomorrow. We have this world wide confrence twice a year. Once in March/April and the other in October. With the sad passing of Pres. Faust there were expected changes.
